Residents Concerned With TF Greene Expansion

T.F. Green International Airport will be outfitted with a new cargo facility, but some Warwick-area residents, especially those living nearby are not enamored with the project.

The 85-thousand-square-foot building is expected to replace an aging hangar on the north side of the airport, plus take up an unused parking lot.

Rhode Island Airport Corporation officials say the current hangar will not accommodate UPS and FedEx, which plan to increase their daily flights from the airport.

Residents are concerned about the increased traffic and noise, while Mayor Frank Picozzi says it is time for a city resident to sit on the corporation's board.

The City Council has approved such an appointment, but it must be approved by the State House.
