Westerly Considers Changes To Parking

The town of Westerly is being advised to consider changes to its ordinances regarding parking.

A report by the Harbor Management Commission finds that some sections of Westerly have prohibited parking and find it to be in some cases exclusionary.

Commission Chair Jason Jarvis says the restrictions are exclusionary and discriminate against people of color, people with disabilities, and others.

The letter calls on Westerly officials to promote and enhance non-discriminatory access for the public, which includes adding some parking spaces.

Property owners in the Watch Hill area have pushed back, saying adding parking breaks an agreement with the town.
