Narragansett Give First Step Approval To Short Term Rental Measure

A proposal that would place regulations on short-term rentals in Narragansett is being resisted by property owners.

Officials passed the measure by a three-to-one vote Monday, with one abstention.

The ordinance aims to shorten such rentals to no less than seven nights, bans the use of these for weddings, banquets, or corporate events, and cuts the number of available permits. Property owners, however, say the measure will only serve to increase rents and damage small businesses.

A second reading of the ordinance is required and will come at a future meeting.
