Police Investigate Fatal Cranston Fire

Investigators in Cranston are looking into the circumstances surrounding a house fire and the discovery of a body.

Fire crews were called to a home on Beckwith Street Monday night.

While they contained the blaze to the basement, it was determined that the fire was set in multiple areas, and the home had been barricaded.

A neighbor reported to police they had heard a possible gunshot before the fire broke out.

Police discovered an 80-year-old wounded man in the garage.

He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy is being performed.

Police however are suggesting this morning that the blaze may have been intentionally set.
