State Senate Passes Gun Lock Measure

Rhode Island's state Senate has approved gun safety legislation.

The bill would call for firearms to be stored in a locked container or equipment with a tamper-resistant lock.

Fines of up to 250 dollars would be levied for a first offense.

Similar laws are on the books in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and supporters say responsible gun owners already take these precautions.

Those opposed, including gun rights groups say the law is not enforceable and renders residents defenseless.

The bill now moves to the House.
